_________________________________________________________________________________Members for Ashtabula County Boards and Committees Sought
The Ashtabula County Board of Commissioners is seeking new members to fill vacancies on several Boards and Committees.
There are presently two (2) vacancies on the Ashtabula County Children Services Board, one (1) opening on the Ashtabula County Board of Developmental Disabilities, one (1) opening on the Ashtabula County Port Authority and one (1) opening on the Ashtabula County Senior Services Levy Advisory Board.
“The individual expertise and knowledge that board members share is invaluable. Serving on a board or committee is one of the most rewarding ways to give back to your community and support a cause that interests you”, said Board President Kathryn Whittington.
The following are brief descriptions of these boards:
CHILDREN SERVICES BOARD (2 openings)
Pursuant to ORC Section 5153.16, the Ashtabula County Children Services Board was created to provide for children who are in need of public care or protective services. Pursuant to ORC Section 5153.03, the Board of Commissioners is the appointing authority for the members of said Children Services Board with terms of the members are set at four (4) years.
BOARD OF DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (1 opening)
Pursuant to Section 5126.02 of the Ohio Revised Code the Ashtabula County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities was created to plan and set priorities based on available resources for the provision of facilities, programs, and other services to meet the needs of county residents who are individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. The Board consists of seven members, five of whom are appointed by the Board of Commissioners with terms of the members set at four (4) years.
PORT AUTHORITY (1 opening)
Pursuant to Section 4582.21 of the Ohio Revised Code the Board of Commissioners created the Ashtabula County Port Authority to promote activities that enhance, foster, aid, provide, or promote transportation, economic development, housing, recreation, education, governmental operations, culture or research within the jurisdiction of the port authority. The terms of the members of the Ashtabula County Port Authority are set at four (4) years.
SENIOR SERVICES LEVY ADVISORY BOARD(1 opening)
The Board of Commissioners created the Ashtabula County Senior Services Levy Advisory Board to assist and advise the Ashtabula County Department of Job and Family Services and this Board in the development and coordination of programs and available services for Ashtabula County’s seniors. The initial terms on the Ashtabula County Senior Services Levy Advisory Board are 3 years and were staggered to allow for an orderly progression of re-appointments so that the services of the Board are not disrupted.

Commissioner Casey Kozlowski added, “Board service allows you to invest in your community, build a network with a common interest, gain a new skillset and grow as a leader, all while playing a crucial role in an organization by protecting its mission and overseeing its financial and legal well-being.”
