The Ashtabula County Law Library is an approved education provider by the Ohio Secretary of State for individuals wanting to become a notary public and for those renewing their commission.  The library will offer the required 1-hour & 3-hour education requirements as well as the testing for new applicants. These classes will be offered on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. in person (limited seats) at the Ashtabula County Complex located at 25 W. Jefferson Street, Jefferson, Ohio 44047 and also via a virtual classroom.  Advanced registration is required!  Please contact the Ashtabula County Law Library at 440-576-3690 or ashtabulacountylawlibrary@gmail.com.  

In September 2019 the laws concerning notary public changed and all new applications and renewals are handled by the secretary of state’s office. For more information see https://www.sos.state.oh.us/notary/

Please note the education certificate is valid for up to 12 months prior to filing the application and the required BCI background report can be obtained up to 6 months prior to submitting your notary application.
